Overview Of Oxygen Therapy

Oxygen therapy has many benefits and few risks for the average person. Generally it takes 3 to 5 minutes to oxygenate ones blood, but a 10 minute session is recommended.  If one is suffering from: headaches, hangover, migraine, stress, fatigue, cramps, jet lag, heat exhaustion, or minor aches and pains, oxygen can provide almost immediate relief.  On a longer term basis, oxygen flushes all the toxins and impurities out of ones blood, preventing cancer from gaining a foothold.  Also, if one has minor sprains or injuries, oxygen can promote the healing of these injuries resulting in faster healing times.  Oxygen is also known to improve memory and concentration levels.

What to Expect After Treatment

While sitting at the Oxygen Party Bar, one may not notice any difference. However as one leaves the oxygen party bar they will notice they have more energy and less aches and pains than before the oxygen treatment.  If they had lactic acid buildup in the muscles, it will be greatly reduced and ones stamina will be noticeably increased.  One will be able to dance and party harder.

If one is drinking, they will have less of a tendency for a hangover the next day. Their blood alcohol level will probably not change much but they can expect an increased tolerance to alcohol and will be less likely to be clumsy and awkward.\

Oxygen has the potential to increase ones memory and alertness following an oxygen treatment.

What Are The Risks Of Oxygen Therapy

Oxygen by itself is dry and treatments in excess of 4 hours can dry ones lungs.  Most oxygen party bars humidify the oxygen by using aroma scented humidifiers when dispenseing the oxygen.

Oxygen at very high levels and over a long period of time can be toxic and very harmful to one's health.  If one was to receive high levels of oxygen on a daily basis, ones lungs will adjust to the higher oxygen content and one can find themselves short of breath when they are don't have oxygen.  This is similar to traveling to a higher elevation where a normal person will easily get winded until their lungs adjust to the lower oxygen levels.  For this reason we do not recommend daily use of recreational oxygen greater than 20 minutes a day.
The reverse of this effect is why athletes train at high altitude and then compete at lower elevations when possible.  Some athletes sleep in an oxygen deprivation tents to increase the capacity of their lungs.  Their increased lung capacity enables them to absorb oxygen faster while competing and provide them with a competitive edge.
Some people are suffering from COPD and can easily become dependent upon excessive oxygen and lose their natural tendency to exhale their exhaust gases.  These people are generally on controlled medical oxygen and under a doctors care and they are aware of their delicate situation.  Ten minutes of recreational oxygen will probably not have much of an effect on them.

What does the American Lung Association Say About Oxygen Party Bars?

The American Lung Association's web site has the following comments about recreational Oxygen Party Bars.  "Inhaling oxygen recreationally is unlikely to have a beneficial physiological effect."  "Oxygen at high levels can be toxic; however, there is no evidence that oxygen at the low flow levels used in bars can be dangerous to a normal person's health."
